2024 saw further steps towards digitalising the claims process in Türkiye making it faster, more efficient, and more accurate. Thanks to an AI-based Claims Handling Tool within Aksigorta’s Motor business, the company can instantly identify vehicle parts, detect damage, and assess the type and severity of damage on those parts from photos of the vehicle in just seconds. This process significantly speeds up the claims handling process while also making cost calculations more accurate and efficient. As an example, after a vehicle is damaged, Aksigorta can quickly calculate which parts need to be replaced, which should be repaired and what the total claim amount will be, all thanks to this AI-based analysis.

And in 2024, to help combat growing incidents of fraud, Aksigorta also started to apply an in-house developed algorithm that allows it to detect whether a claim photograph uploaded to the system has been used in another claim file within seconds thereby helping to prevent potential fraud. In 2024 more than 2,000 such checks were conducted, and detections of potential fraud were proven to be 100% accurate using this technology. Incidents of fraud are high in the Turkish market, and over time they can lead to financial consequences for insurers but also increased premiums for honest policy holders.

With an eye on the future, Aksigorta plans to take these innovative solutions a step further by creating a human free claims process which means being able to automatically conclude a damage claim based on certain rules and utilising technology without the need for evaluation by a claim’s examiner. This will allow Aksigorta to resolve smaller less complex claim cases through AI and other technological tools without human intervention. But human intervention remains critical where cases are more complex and where other value-added tasks are necessary.

These types of digital transformation initiatives are helping to increase efficiency but also provide competitive edge in a highly competitive insurance market.
